Home Safety

When does too much safety become dangerous?

We seem to be well on our way to a safety-first society. Automobile seat belts have led to bike helmets and recently to ski helmets, which have now led to cries for tobogganing helmets, endorsed by Health Canada and some safety groups. What's next? Golf and tennis helmets? Jogging helmets? Maybe helmets for kids to wear to school on "snowy roof days." There's no end to how far you can go when you try to make life a "zero-risk" activity!

Toddler with a saw...? Who buys that?

Sometimes I buy stock photos online and I just came across this image of a barehanded baby using a hack saw! There are even more adorable toddler-with-tools shots there - and no doubt the same kind of studio shots at competitive online photo services.

Somebody set up and snapped these pictures, somebody thought they would sell. What can I say? A picture speaks a thousand words...  I couldn't keep quiet.

(P.S. This image of a wee boy and his saw did sell; I bought it to put it up here!)
